“Life has treasures, but it won’t give them up easily.”

Isn’t it funny how we interpret what happens to us? If enough bad things happen, we think that “life has it in for us,” or that we have a “streak of bad luck.”

Do you really believe that life is singling you out? That out of all the billions and billions of people that have lived on this earth—and the billions that live on it now—somehow life selected you for special mistreatment?

That’s how we think, and it’s what I often refer to as “fatalism.” Not fatal as in deadly—like receiving a fatal wound—but as in “fate.” In other words, we think there’s some orchestrated plan for our lives from which we cannot escape. That’s fatalism.

When we think like this, we get into the mode where we wait for life to happen to us instead of making life happen for us. Think about it. If there was some grand plan for your life, then there’s no way you know what it is. Therefore, you should go about your life realizing that most of what transpires in your life is based upon your outlook, decisions, and actions.

So, instead of looking at life’s resistance as evidence that life is judging you, try seeing it as more of a dare. Life has treasures, but it won’t give them up easily. It’s as if life is daring you to come try to take what’s yours!
